I’m very proud and very lucky to have won the pitch for the new Disability Services Victoria website. But also, really appreciate the opportunity to work directly with Vision Australia on the WCAG accessibility standards.

The process of building an accessible site was such a learning experience. Simple things like the contrasts of colours/shadows, spacing of letters and colours in general needed to be considered deeply. Every single piece of content required some sort of textual explanation, including forms, slide shows and drop down menus.

The site was awarded Level AA which is the second ranking of WCAG standards. To get Level AAA we would have needed to transcript every video and animation which at the time we didn’t have budgets for.

A new way to work with a nice challenge to demonstrate a design that was ‘cool’ but totally WCAG. Go and find the DSC site in the portfolio to see how it looks.
