project: bell street strategy

client: city of darebin

description of project
The Bell Street study relates to the section of Bell Street that passes through the City of Darebin, extending from Merri Creek to the west and Darebin Creek to the east. Bell Street is a major east-west arterial road or regional significance, which provides a high exposure frontage for business and commercial uses. However, these uses are currently represented by a low amenity, transitory style of development that are disconnected and fragmented.

The aim of the Bell Street Strategy is to provide a sustainable future for Bell Street and to provide a clear framework for decision making for the Council, community, business owners and developers. The hansen team has prepared a series of precinct based concept plans to assist in the realisation of a preferred future for Bell Street in the future. A set of overarching design and access principles have also been established to draw these precincts together in a visual and physical sense across the corridor. A final draft strategy with 3D animated model is due to be released for community consultation early in 2006.
