project: frankston cad urban renewal

client: frankston city council

description of project
hansen was engaged by Frankston City Council in early 2004 to design, document and oversee the construction of streetscape improvement works comprising a number of streets within the Frankston CAD.

The first stage of the project involved a process of community and stakeholder consultation, leading to the development of a comprehensive public domain concept plan for the Frankston CAD. Following acceptance of the concept plan by Council, hansen subsequently prepared detailed design and documentation packages for two separate areas; the Frankston Town Place precinct in Wells Street and the Bayside North precinct in Beach Street.

Construction or the Frankston Town Place was completed in December 2004, with Bayside North in mid-2005. The detailed design and documentation process involved ongoing consultation with affected traders, coordination of design elements with the developers of the adjacent Bayside Entertainment Complex and collaboration with a number of artists involved in public commissions ranging from a major sculpture piece within the Town Place to a pedestrian footbridge over Kananook Creek.
